ABOUT THE AUTHOR

KINGPIN is a work-in-progress by former journalist KEVIN HALL that peeks under the rug at a colorful history of bootlegging and illegal gambling in Virginia in the mid-20th century.

Hall, a former broadcast reporter and Associated Press editor (1986-2001), also served as the chief spokesperson for two Virginia governors (2002-2008) and a U.S. senator (2009-2017).

In 2018, Virginia's governor appointed Hall to serve as CEO of the Virginia Lottery. For four years, Hall legally managed many of the same gambling activities that ultimately sent Harry Donovan to prison in 1960.
